Here is a sample of the America poem. The final copy is due tomorrow – typed – with a picture inserted as a watermark. If you know how to do this at home, feel free to go ahead and finish your final copy. If you do not know how, bring your rough draft to class tomorrow and we will do the final copy in class with my computers. Remember, you cannot use the computers unless you have turned in your computer use agreement!!!!!

Click on the image of the computer to go to the computer use agreement form for my classes. If you do not have this on file with me, you will not be allowed to have access to the laptop computers in my room. The forms were due today. I will accept them tomorrow if you forgot to turn yours in today.

First Article of the Week
Click on the picture below and you will be redirected to the first article of the week. Remember, to complete the assignment you must do the following:
1. Close read the text
a. Number the paragraphs
b. Underline or highlight claims / key points
c. Circle key words or unfamiliar terms (use a dictionary and look up the unfamiliar terms!)
d. Left margin - What is the author saying? - a word or short phrase written in the margin beside each
paragraph summarizing what the author is saying in that paragraph.
e. Right margin - What is the author doing? - written in the right margin beside each paragraph - a word (-ing word) or short phrase that begins with an -ing word and tells what the author is doing with each paragraph.
2. Write a 1 page reflection about the article. Write on the front side of the paper only. Use your best writing skills. Proofread your paper! A reflection is a demonstration to me that you have been thinking as you have read the article several times. What is your opinion of the article? Do you agree or disagree? Why? Support points that you make by citing evidence (either by direct or indirect quotation) from the article. Use this reflection to prove to me that you read, understood, and reacted to the article.
AOW (Article of the Week) is given on the first day of class for the week and is due on the last day of class for the week.
